Fields has lacerated tongue

Fairfield basketball freshman guard Jamel Fields, sat out the exhibition loss against Stonehill due to a lacerated tongue. He suffered the injury in the win versus Bridgeport and received 18 stitches in his mouth. The injury is not expected to be serious and he hopes to play in the home opener against the Pioneers.

Crawford Out

Fairfield men's guard Sean Crawford is out and probably for the season. The junior had a tear of is ACL during the Saturday practice after Red Sea Madness, which will require surgery. After the procedure to repair the tear, he is expected to rehab for 6-8 months. If he is indeed out for the year, Crawford will red shirt the 2010-2011 season.

Big loss for the team. Crawford was their ignitor from the bench and just seemed to come up with a clutch basket when the team needed it. I have spoken to Crawford since and he remains in high spirits about the team.

The team just keeps getting ravaged by injuries. But good teams are able to persevere. This injury will force other players to step up and fill their "Sixth Man" needs.

Saint Peter's Wesley Jenkins suffers knee injury

According to Jersey Journal's online sports blog, St. Peter's Wesley Jenkins has suffered a serious knee injury. Apparently he has injured his ACL in a campus pick up game. The injury is noted to not as be as serious as previously thought.

According to reports, Jenkins is not going to need surgery, but MIGHT have to sit out the entire year. No decision has been made to redshirt him.

Jenkins averaged 13.8 PPG and is one of the league's premiere shooters. He is arguably one of the team's best players.

BIG news! I don't know if the Peacocks can compete without Jenkins. They will have to rely on Ryan Bacon and their other players. Jenkins had the possibility to become the MAAC Player of the Year.

Jack Burridge out for season

Stags forward Jack Burridge will be out for the season due to an injury sustained on the game on Saturday. The leading scorer from last year suffered broken bones in his elbow and dislocated other parts and underwent a three hour surgery. He will redshirt and should be good for next year.

This is a big setback for the Stags losing their leading scorer again. As shown last year in the MAAC Championships and the first two games of this year they are not the same team without him. The Stags were 1-0-1 with Burridge in the lineup this year. This is the second year he will miss time with an injury.

Sarah Paulus will play in 2010-2011 season

Stags guard Sarah Paulus will play in the upcoming year. She missed all but 3 games last year when she was pulled from a game with a knee injury. She tore ligaments in her knee and was out for the season. She says the knee feels "great."

This is great news for the Stags. Although she is not that much of a scoring threat she is composed, poised, and a great leader on the court. She reminds me of Megan Caskin when she was at Fairfield. Great passer and not a bad rebounder.

Siena's Clarence Jackson suffers broken foot

Siena's Clarence Jackson has suffered a broken foot and is wearing a walking boot. The injury has sidlined him for the last few weeks but doesn't expect to impact him in the upcoming year.

He is scheduled to have x-rays on Thursday. "I'm just fortunate that it happened now," the Saint's senior said, "It's not the best way to have your summer but it happens. It's part of basketball.

This is shocking news but does not look like it will impact the MAAC this year. Siena will be highly dependent on the play of Ryan Rossiter and Clarence Jackson this year. I hope he is ok and this heals quickly.
