Exciting Home Games might be empty

This past week the Fairfield men's basketball team announced their complete 2010-2011 schedule. To view the complete schedule click here.
In a year when the buzz around campus is how good the basketball will be and the promise that they have. In a year when the coaches and players have guaranteed an appearance in the championship game. In a year when record attendance figures are being set for the fall sports including 950 fans attending the Women's Soccer game aganist Boston College, most people would expect an exciting and popular season for the men's basketball team.

However, that might not be. A couple of exciting and much hyped games will be affected due to the campus vacation days and location changes. These games include:

Sacred Heart (played at Mohegan Sun)
St. Josephs (tournament game, Thanksgiving break)
Vermont (Christmas break)
Army (possible Alumni Hall game)
Niagara
St. Peters

St. Joseph's is arguably the most hyped non conference home game of the season while the Army game is another example of one of the few Alumni Hall games occuring when no one is on campus.

This may just be some bad luck and the attendance figures are sure to be broken during the MAAC Championships in the Arena this year. But it would have been nice to have the student's support before the tournament and get even more hype on campus.

Men's Basketball unveils OOC slate

Coach Cooley has unveiled the OOC slate for the upcoming year. He says it could be the most challenging since he has been here at Fairfield.

Looking at this schedule I hope the Stags can go 8-4 which would really make a statement. I am surprised that there is no Holy Cross or Fordham on the schedule.

11/15 at Rutgers

11/19 at Penn State

11/23 St. Joseph

11/26 Norfolk State (neutral)

12/2 at Savannah State

12/7 Howard

12/20 Vermont

12/28 at Florida

12/31 Army

Stags to play host to Vermont on December 20

The Fairfield Stags will play the University of Vermont at home on December 20th. Vermont finished 25-10 overall last year and won their conference and was a 16 seed in the NCAA tournament.

This is the second known OOC game joined with the Stags travelling to Gainesville on December 28th to face the University of Florida. Vermont will compete aganist 4 total MAAC teams this year including: Iona, Siena, Fairfield, and Marist.

The last time the Stags played Vermont, they were defeated in the Bracketbuster game.

2010 Mens Soccer Schedule

For the complete schedule click here.

This looks like a great schedule for the team. We should be at the top of the MAAC while only graduating a few seniors from last year and having Jack Burridge healthy.

What I'm most impressed with is having 7 straight home games to begin the year. Hopefully we get a fan fare for a couple of those including: Boston College and U Mass.

The beginning of the year looks pretty difficult for the Stags. Games such as at Georgetown will be pretty interesting to see where the club is. But I am really looking forward to the Boston College game at home. Hopefully students will show up for that game. The good news is that they do not go on the Buffalo swing with Niagara and Cansius coming here.
